The Road to the End
Eight teams participated in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup: Australia, China, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The teams were split into two groups, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinals.
The Group Stage matches featured several exciting competitions, with teams battling for a spot in the Knockout Stage.
In the semifinals, Australia faced South Korea and Japan faced China. Australia won the close match 1-0 and Japan beat China 2-0 to secure a place in the final.
The sLike AFC Women’s Asian Cup Final was held on 20 February 2022 and featured Australia and Japan. The match was held at the Mumbai Football Arena and a sold-out crowd cheered the team on.
Both teams started off strong, but it was Australia who took the lead through Emily van Egmond in the 22nd minute. Japan fought back, but Australia’s strong defense prevented them from equalizing.
