The Road to the End
Eight teams participated in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup: Australia, China, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The teams were split into two groups, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinals.

Both teams started off strong, but it was Australia who took the lead through Emily van Egmond in the 22nd minute. Japan fought back, but Australia’s strong defense prevented them from equalizing.
